Will Car Insurance Premiums Be Going Up For New Yorkers?

New laws going into effect next week could mean that auto insurance premiums for New York car owners will be rising in 2011, but lower rates of auto theft could eventually lead to even lower premiums for local residents in the long run. In New York, driving while talking on your cell phone has been illegal for almost a decade, but now offenders will be slapped with a new penalty of two points added to their license.
The average car insurance for New York residents is already about 85% higher then the national average because New York has been infamous for car theft and vandalism. This seems to be changing recently though as car theft continues a decade-long decline, and this trend should lead to lower insurance premiums in the future if it continues apace.
